Test trenching was undertaken in advance of the N52 Cloghan to Billistown Phase 1 Cloghan to Turin, Co. Westmeath.
A total of 8819 square metres of test trenches were excavated between ITM co-ordinates 650025 756080 and 653141 757462.
Six sites were identified:
Cloghanumera 1 was identified as 47 features of various sizes in Trenches 1-3, Area 1a.
Killynan (Cooke) 1 was identified as a single pit in Trench 22, Area 4.
Killynan (Pratt) 1 was identified as 2 charcoal-rich pits in Trench 58, Area 7.
Killynan (Pratt) 2 was identified as 7 charcoal-rich pits inTrench 61, Area 7.
Killynan (Pratt) 3 was identified as a possible circular or oval structure, comprised of 25 pits, post-holes and shallow linear features in Trenches 65 and 66, Area 8.
Killynan (Pratt) 4 was identified as a small circular burnt mound with associated trough in Trenches 124 and 125, Area 9.
