Testing followed a series of previous investigations including geophysical survey, testing and excavation undertaken in 2014.
This phase of testing was undertaken in June 2015 under an extension to the original testing licence (14E0325). A total of 32 test trenches, measuring 1,970m linear metres, were excavated across the site, targeting areas not assessed by previous trenches and/or by the geophysics survey.
The current phase of testing identified two new areas of archaeological significance:
• Archaeological Area 2 Cutting 2: a truncated burnt mound
• Archaeological Area 2 Cutting 3: a charcoal production pit
It was recommended in this report that the two archaeological areas identified above be fully preserved by record in advance of any construction at this site.
