An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of a new school on lands at Ballintrain Road, Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone.
A total of 31 test trenches were excavated using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket.
A single layer of topsoil in all trenches directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil which consisted of bands of compact orange clay interspersed with a more loose, gritty clay with infrequent inclusions of degraded stones.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
