Monitoring was carried out at Loudres Road, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary in response to planning conditions attached to the development (Planning Ref. 12510437). Monitoring works followed on from testing that was carried out by IAC Ltd in 2014 (Licence Ref: 14E0406).
The development siteĀ is a discrete area in a small, rectangular plot located on the south-western side of the Lourdes Road, Roscrea. The plot is orientated north-east/south-west and measures c. 50m by c. 25m (0.13ha).
The development site is located within the zone of archaeological potential for Roscrea Town (TN012-010). The nearest recorded sub-constraint within that zone is the round tower, which is located c. 140m to the south-east (TN012-010005).
Monitoring of the topsoil stripping of the development area revealed no deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance. No further archaeological mitigation is deemed to be necessary as part of the development.
