Fill material/aggregate is currently being sourced from the permitted Carrick Hill borrow area for on-going mining operations at the Lisheen Mine complex, in Co. Tipperary. Monitoring of topsoil stripping associated with the above borrow pit was undertaken in 2015. This monitoring was carried out under an extension to the excavation licence for 30 trenches excavated by IAC Ltd within the same area in 2013. The site is located c. 2.3km north of Moyne village and c. 3km south of Templetouhy village.
No archaeological features or artefacts were uncovered during the course of monitoring in 2015. There was no impact on archaeological remains during this phase of topsoil stripping works. It is proposed that monitoring for 2016 will include the continuing monitoring of all topsoil stripping works associated with the borrow pit.
