Test Excavation, Archaeological Impact Assessment and Visual Amenity Impact Assessment of an extension to farmyard units took place on 11 and 12 December 2015. The impact assessment identified no intrusions on recorded monuments. The test trench (19m x 2m) was opened within the footprint of a proposed 19m by 14m cattle house. No archaeology was encountered.
The site’s general stratigraphy consisted of 0.2m sod and light brown to mid grey topsoil with frequent limestone pebbles, 0.2m of yellow silty clay as natural subsoil and on to a surface of pale yellow sticky clay with frequent inclusions of small to medium decayed and undecayed limestone and to some extent some decayed sandstone.
