In the course of monitoring, a number of potential archaeological features were identified within the hardstand area of Turbine 9 at Kill Hill Windfarm. Two pits were excavated, both rich in charcoal. From the evidence we can assume that one pit, with fire-reddened clay around the edges, represents a hearth or fire-pit used on a number of occasions. The second pit, given its charcoal-rich fill with no evidence of in situ burning and relative proximity to the first, would suggest this represents a waste pit for the nearby hearth.
