Monitoring took place intermittently between 11 March and 1 July 2015 and took 16 days in total to complete.

The development involved the construction of a 2-turbine wind farm. The access roads and the Turbine 1 hardstand area did not require excavation as they were floated on the bog surface, and as a result monitoring was limited to the excavation of the Turbine 2 foundation, the Turbine 2 hardstand area, silt ponds, peat storage areas and 2 cable trenches. Limited excavation was carried out at the Turbine 1 foundation and this was also monitored.

Roscommon County Council did not attach any archaeological conditions when granting planning permission for the development. Gaelectric Developments Ltd. (the Developer) however requested that the writer carry out monitoring of all groundworks in order to ensure the satisfactory management of the archaeological resource associated with the permitted development.

No archaeological features or artefacts were revealed as a result of carrying out the monitoring.
