Monitoring was carried out in February and March 2015, for
the groundworks associated with Slane Hill Public Footpath and Lighting
Scheme, for a stretch of 485m, from just north of Glenpatrick housing estate,
to the entrance to the car-park for the monuments on the summit of the hill.
The general width of the topsoil strip was 0.6m, the depth was 0.1m below
existing ground level. The site was the subject of a pre-construction desk-based review and assessment, which was carried out by Niall Roycroft in
May 2014. This work pointed out the nearest monument, a souterrain, which
was located 50m from the footpath; particular attention was paid to this
stretch of the work.
The monitor disclosed no material of an archaeological nature, finds or
features.
