Monitoring was carried out prior to the proposed Tough Mudder Event at Loughcrew Adventure Centre, Loughcrew, Co. Meath. The Tough Mudder is an endurance event series in which participants attempt a military-style obstacle course and is designed to test physical and mental strength. The proposed course at Loughcrew covers a distance of 10.9 miles. The monitoring was carried out by Donald Murphy & Derek Gallagher on behalf of Tough Mudder.

Six areas were identified in an earlier assessment report where obstacles required excavation in advance. The sites of these obstacles (4.Kiss of Mud, 8. Boa Crawl, 9. Quagmire, 19. Birth Canal, 21. Pitfall, 23. Mud Mile) were topsoil stripped by mechanical excavator under supervision on 19 June 2015. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified during the monitoring phase of works.
