Monitoring of ground works in advance of the construction of a football pitch was carried out over two phases in February and April/May 2015. The development in Slane townland is located immediately to the rear of St Patrick’s National School on the Collon Road (N2) c. 650m north of the crossroads in the village. The development is adjacent to a souterrain (ME019-008) and a range of other monuments are recorded in the vicinity. There is a slight north to south slope on the land which was stripped and leveled during groundworks.

Three small areas of burning were noted during stripping operations. All had been heavily truncated by subsequent agricultural activity and were represented by areas of charcoal-flecked and blackened soil. Feature 1 was roughly sub-circular in shape and measured c. 0.6m north-south by 0.55m. Feature 2 was defined by an area of greyer soil flecked with charcoal and was roughly oval in shape measuring 0.3m north-south by 0.4m. Feature 3 was defined by an area of mottled grey/black soil flecked with charcoal. It was sub-circular in shape measuring c. 0.25m north-south by 0.3m. No other features of archaeological interest were noted on the site during monitoring and no artefacts were recovered from any of the features.
