ADCO carried out the riverine archaeological component of the proposed N5 Westport to Turlough Road Project. This component required an archaeological assessment of nine waterways impacted by the proposed scheme. These waterways comprise: RC1, unnamed stream, Westport Demesne/Deepark East and Creggaunnahorna Townlands; RC2, unnamed stream, Creggaunnahorna and Deerpark East Townlands; RC3, unnamed stream, Attiresh and Gortaroe Townlands; RC4, unnamed stream, Drummindoo and Carrownaclea Townlands; RC5, unnamed stream, Kilbree Lower and Drumneen Townlands; RC6, unnamed stream, Dooleague and Claggarnagh Townlands; RC7, Claggarnagh Stream, Claggarnagh East Townland; RC8, unnamed stream, Claggarnagh East Townland; and RC9, unnamed stream, Claggarnagh East and Annagh Townlans. Comprehensive, systematic, visual inspection of the streambed and bankside areas was undertaken at each waterway location. In addition, where practicable, a comprehensive magnetometer survey by hand-held metal-detection was undertaken. No archaeologically significant material was revealed. The work was undertaken on 29 and 30 August 2015.
