The project consisted of the laying of approximately 22km of pipeline south-east of Westport town, connecting a proposed reservoir at Carrowbaun with the existing Westport water supply system and running south-east to Srah Cross. The works were located in the existing road network, largely along the R330, and in green field sites. The groundworks took place continuously between 16 August and 12 September 2014 and on 24 April 2015. All groundworks were monitored during this time period. In some areas of commonage bog, or forestry, the wayleaves were not stripped of topsoil and a narrow trenching bucket was used to excavate the pipe trench at a later stage in the project. Monitoring did not reveal any archaeological features, deposits or finds.
