An archaeological assessment was undertaken at the site of a proposed mixed commercial and residential development at Newry Street, Carlingford, Co. Louth, within the Zone of Archaeological Potential established around Carlingford. Two test trenches were excavated in the northern portion of the site. Both were excavated to a depth of over 2m without revealing either buried archaeological deposits or the original ground surface. The construction proposal will involve the excavation of c. 1.3m of infill material from the site to facilitate a raft foundation. Should archaeological deposits be present on the site, an adequate buffer will be maintained between construction works and possible buried archaeological deposits.
