Test trenching was undertaken at the proposed site of a single dwelling house, immediately south of Caherdaniel village, in the townland of Ballycarnahan, on 14 March 2015.  No previously recorded monuments were within the vicinity of the site.

A total of ten trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development – a total of 102m linear metres. The topsoil was an average of 0.3m in thickness, over gravel subsoil. A modern drain was recorded. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
