Conservation works took place on the masonry remains of Ballybunion Castle and repairs to the subsiding cliff face around a souterrain opening on the southern side of the promontory. Old cement-based mortars on the castle were removed and replaced with lime-based mortar (pointing). The exposed wall core was also flaunched and strengthened. No previously unrecorded archaeological features or strata were encountered during the course of the works
