Groundworks involved the partial removal of a concrete block wall, the excavation of a rectangular site adjacent to the house, the footprint of a new garage to the side of the house and two associated soak holes. The site is one field to the south of Caherdrine early ecclesiastical enclosure (GA095-02000). The adjacent field where the extension is to be constructed has been improved and levelled in modern times.

Monitoring took place in July 2015 in dry, bright conditions. The excavation was carried out by mechanical digger with a ditching bucket. The stratigraphy was of topsoil (0.1m) overlying a mid-brown silty clay (0.15m) below which was a light, brown grey, compact, natural boulder clay. The depth of excavation was maximum 0.35m. The only feature noted was a soak hole for the original house. There were no finds or features of archaeological potential noted.
