The proposed scheme will realign a c. 2km section of the N17 road between Tuam and Claremorris, c. 6-8km south of Claremorris, Co. Mayo. It traverses the townlands of Carrownurlaur, Newtown South and Ballindine West, Co. Galway. Testing of the scheme was undertaken in May 2014 and identified seven previously unrecorded fulachtaí fiadh in Carrownurlaur townland (2014:447; 14E0163). Full excavation of these sites was undertaken between 29 September and 22 October 2014. However a small section of one of the sites (Carrownurlaur 7) was located outside the lands made available for the 2014 excavations by virtue of its location opposite a field access route. The current entry details the results of archaeological excavation across the remainder of Carrownurlaur 7.

Excavation confirmed the northern limit of the burnt spread and recorded two possibly related spreads at the western end of the site. One of these was dated to 2026–1882 BC (D-AMS 013648; 3586±29 BP).
