Pre-planning testing of the proposed site of new student accommodation took place on 18 June 2015. The investigation involved the excavation of c. 360 metres of 2m-wide trenches across the site using a 13-ton tracked machine. A number of small areas could not be investigated due to the presence of underground services and an area with an infestation of Japanese Knotweed.
The only features observed were a modern field drain, a geological test pit, a modern roadway and a natural peaty hollow which cut across the site and produced modern pottery and old fence posts at the base. No features of archaeological significance were observed. No archaeological finds were observed or recovered during the investigations.
