Stage (i)a testing was undertaken in the townlands of Pollawarla, Ballyglooneen, Culliagh North and Culliagh South, Co. Galway in advance of the proposed realignment of a section of the existing N63 between Abbeyknockmoy and Annagh Hill. The work was undertaken on behalf of Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority between 19 and 27 November 2014.

The testing areas were located between ITM 550175, 743244 in the north-east and 546590, 740611 in the south-west. The scheme is situated in relatively low-lying terrain between c. 40–60m above Ordnance Datum.

Land drains and the remnants of agriculture gullies and furrows were identified throughout the area. A number of plots were inaccessible for testing due to dangerous access from the main road.

A total of 2,977 linear metres of test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed scheme. No archaeological sites, features or deposits were identified during the course of the investigation.
