An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a new facility for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service at Erne Hospital, Enniskillen.
The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 20 test pits/trenches across the site. No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation. The former hospital site is located on the top of a hill and it is clear from the changing levels across the site that this area has been subject to significant cut and fill activities in order to construct the previous facility. It was apparent from the evaluation that the proposed development will be located within an area of the site containing substantial levels of modern fill material devoid of any archaeological deposits.
