The site, located in the townland of Pelletstown, is bounded to the south by the Royal Canal, to the east by Ratoath Road, River Road to the north and other phases of housing development to the west. The archaeological monitoring was undertaken in response to a planning condition imposed by Dublin City Council (condition no. 16 of planning ref 3069/14, Dublin City Council).

This monitoring was carried out in 2015 in areas not completed in the earlier phases of the development, in two separate areas of the site, referred to as Area A and Area B. The first stage of monitoring was carried out in the south-east corner of the site (Area A) whilst the second was on the northern bank of the canal situated at the southern boundary of the site (Area B).
Monitoring of soil stripping in the south-east corner of the site (Area A) commenced on the 11 June 2015 and was completed on the 15 June. No features or finds of archaeological interest were identified as a result of these works.
Archaeological monitoring of the localised widening of the Royal Canal and reconfiguration of the towpath at the southern boundary of the site (Area B) commenced on the 23 November 2015 and was completed on the 30 November. A 1.54m stretch of a coursed limestone canal bank localised revetment wall was uncovered, recorded and removed as part of these works. No other features or finds of archaeological interest were identified during these works.
