The excavation was located in a small lane off Lower Clanbrassil Street, Dublin 8, known as Rosedale Terrace. A single-storey roofed area, previously used for car repairs, stood over the ground, adjacent to a yard stabling tourist-type ‘horse and traps’.
Following a test excavation in January 2014 where redeposited clays were recovered 1.35m below the surface, monitoring of the demolition and excavation of the ground took place 19 February 2015. The existing upstanding structures comprising modern breeze block walls, tiled roofing, and steel columns.
The foundation trenches were dug to a depth of 600mm maximum below the surface, and no disturbance occurred of the potential archaeological material below the surface.
