Monitoring of site preparation/trench excavation works associated with the construction of a single storey extension to the southern gable of a residence known as Primrose Cottage, Newcastle, Co. Dublin was undertaken in compliance with the Grant of Planning. The development plot is located within the Zone of Archaeological Potential established for Newcastle (DU020-003) and to the immediate north of a possible tower-house site (DU020-00306).

No subsurface features or deposits of archaeological interest were uncovered, and no artefacts of archaeological interest were recovered during the course of the works. In addition, it was noted that the entire development area had been the subject of extensive ground disturbance/reduction works associated with the construction of the existing house.
