Monitoring of subsurface works took place on the site of Burlington House, Dublin 4. The existing Burlington House is a modern office structure. It occupies the site of Burlington House, which was constructed during the latter part of the 19th century when it was surrounded by a number of large houses, including Burleigh House to the north, Tullamaine Villa and Mespil House to the west and four terraced structures (Sidney Terrace) to the south. Today only the terraced structures to the south survive, while the large houses have been replaced with modern developments. The site comprises 0.683ha and is bounded by Burlington Road to the south-east, Burleigh Court to the north and the Burlington Hotel site to the west. The development will consist of the demolition of the present five-storey office building and the ancillary sheds. The site was to be redeveloped with a five-storey office building over two levels of basement, the lower of which is a carpark. On the first edition OS map of c. 1846, prior to its development in the late 19th century as Burlington House, the site is shown in a green field area in the townland of Baggotrath. About 350m to the north-east is Baggotrath Castle (DU018-55). The area is also shown as green field on John Rocque’s map of 1760. There are no recorded monuments in the near vicinity.

Monitoring of subsurface works took place from 29 June and 25 September 2015. No archaeological finds or features came to light.
