Monitoring and excavation were undertaken at College Green, Westmoreland Street, Hawkins Street and O’Connell Bridge, Dublin, between January 2014 and August 2015 for GMC (Ireland) Ltd on behalf of the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA), now Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
Monitoring of excavations for Utilities Works was carried out along the route of the planned Luas Cross City (LCC) light rail system at College Green, Hawkins Street, Westmoreland Street and O’Connell Street.
Several previously unrecorded cellars and associated structures were identified. Numerous drains, cobbled surfaces, sewers and other culverted services were noted in all areas where excavations were undertaken. In addition a number of calp limestone walls foundations related to buildings which fronted onto College Green were identified. Layers representing phases of road surfacing, activity and demolition were also recorded.
