A first phase of testing took place on the site of a proposed residential development and all associated site works at Castleknock Cross, Dublin 15. The site is in an urban setting and is currently occupied by a large industrial unit and associated sheds. Testing took place on 23 and 26 November 2015.
Following a site meeting with the developer, architect and construction company on 19 October it was requested that the development proceed on two phased basis to enable constructions works to proceed in the south-west corner of the site. The site is located in a landscape rich in archaeological heritage. A total of three trenches were excavated and no finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed. The remainder of the test trenches will be excavated in January 2016, following the demolition of the main building which occupies the site.
