An assessment was carried out at the location of the former Swords Ironworks on St Colmcille’s Court off Main Street in Swords. The site covers an area of 0.085ha and is composed of a number of workshops with a yard area to the front.. The proposed development is located within the zone of archaeological potential established around the town of Swords, DU011-034. St Colmcille’s ecclesiastical enclosure lies 100m to the west, on the other side of the Ward River, which forms a natural boundary to the enclosure. Two test trenches totalling 30m were excavated within the site. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during the assessment.
