A programme of test-trenching was carried out in advance of plans to build an extension to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Rochestown. Five test-trenches were excavated in the undeveloped south-east portion of the site in order to assess possible archaeological features identified in the desktop assessment. The former townland boundary and the site of a possible enclosure and other aerial satellite anomalies were all demonstrated to contain no archaeological interest. A site associated with brick-making on Pottery Road in the south-east of the site should be archaeologically monitored.
