Monitoring for a proposed development at 26 (part of) - 31 York Street (as well as on Proud’s Lane, Dublin 2, and part of the Ardilaun Centre, Cuffe Street, Cuffe Lane and St. Stephen’s Green West, Dublin 2) was carried out intermittently in February 2015 on behalf of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland; the area was largely previously taken up by the Ardilaun Centre carpark.

Previous work on the site by Denis Shine in 2007 confirmed the presence of Georgian masonry and levelling deposits and a probable medieval pit. The site of the proposed development also lies within the historic city of Dublin (DU018-020), more specifically touching on the postulated outline of the ecclesiastical enclosure of Dubh Linn (DU018-020389) at the west end of the site and the River Steine at the east end of the site.

Monitoring was conducted until natural deposits were confirmed across the site; no features of archaeological significance were recorded (which would have most likely been removed, should they have existed, during the construction of the Ardilaun Carpark) and so no further archaeological mitigation was deemed necessary.
