2015:006 - DUBLIN: 59 Orwell Park, Rathgar, Dublin

Monitoring of a residential development (Planning Ref.: 2013/14) was carried out over a number of days during January 2015. All topsoil removal was carried out under supervision and no specific features or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of works.

A significant amount of disturbance was noted within the development area, which can be dated to the 19th century. A late 19th-century stone-filled drain crossed the site and had disturbed what may represent the edge of an 18th-century midden. The glass and metallurgical waste material recovered from this deposit would indicate some small scale industrial activity in the area, probably dating to around the mid-18th century.
