An archaeological evaluation in the form of pre-development test trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed single dwelling development at 96–98 Newry Road, Kilkeel in response to a request for additional information as to the archaeological impact of the proposed development upon site DOW055:033, which is recorded in SMR records as extending into the boundaries of the development.
Excavation of a series of test trenches within the boundaries of the development area confirmed the existence of a large ditch feature within the southern portion of the site, however no other archaeological features were identified associated with occupation of the site were identified, likely the result of their truncation by historic landscaping of the site as part of historic development of this area of Kilkeel.
