An archaeological evaluation was carried out in order to retain planning permission for the proposed construction of a single storey replacement dwelling with attached garage on lands at 22 Ballywoodan Road, Downpatrick.
Two test trenches were excavated across the site. In both trenches, a single layer of topsoil was removed, which had a maximum depth of 0.15m, and directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil, which consisted of a compact gravel/fractured bedrock with bands of loose orange gritty sand.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
