An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior ot the proposed construction of a small residential development on lands at 27 Dromore Street, Banbridge.
A total of 6 test trenches excavated across the footprint of the proposed development. Trench 4 was not excavated to its full extent due to the presence of the concrete car ramp while a 6.5m section of Trench 6 adjacent to the site access from Burn Brae was left in situ at the request of the client. This was to preserve the integrity of the ground at the site access in advance of expected heavy vehicle use during construction.
All trenches measured approximately 1.85m wide and were excavated to glacial subsoil or fill material/modern flooring cut into subsoil. Overburden across the proposed development consisted of fill material including clay, stone, building debris, wood, metal and old car parts.
No evidence of any archaeological deposits was identified during the course of the evaluation.
