An archaeological evaluation was undertaken ahead of the proposed construction of a residential development on lands at 30-34 and to the rear of 36-46 Dromore Street, Ballynahinch, Co. Down. The evaluation consisted of the excavation of a series of test trenches across the site. The site is currently vacant land with a footprint to outline the previous development located in the north of the site. The site is bounded to the east, south and west by a partially demolished masonry wall, which appears to be associated with the original development of warehouse/outbuildings. The ground cover across the site is predominately comprised of concrete hard standing.
In total, four trenches were excavated with each trench measuring 2m wide. Two layers of concrete covered the entire site. The trenches were excavated using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
