Unlicensed monitoring took place of all groundworks associated with a Forest Road development at Casheltown Co. Donegal by Coillte Teoranta on 15 September 2015. All groundworks associated with the proposed forest road were monitored. The monitoring concluded that the footprint of the proposed forest road was devoid of archaeology. The natural subsoil was exposed along the length of the road and large outcrops of rock protruded throughout the peat at various sections along the corridor. No features or deposits were identified within the road footprint and no finds were recovered. Evidence of possible rock art was noted on boulders to the south side of the proposed road and as a result the road was moved further north at this location to avoid impacting upon them. An exclusion zone was maintained around DG098-003, the wedge tomb and pre-bog field wall; this area currently is not planted and no thinning operations will be undertaken in this area.
