Monitoring was undertaken on the site of a new Remote Pumping Station associated with the overall St. Johnstown WWTW facility on 13 October 2015. The site consisted of a small area containing a hardwood tree plantation (planted c.1996), located to the north of St. Johnstown cricket club, close to a river (St. Johnstown River?) and approximately 100m west of the River Foyle. The topsoil was stripped off the site by a 360 degree mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless bucket, under constant supervision of the licenced archaeologist.
