The overburden comprised a small amount of building rubble left over from building demolitions and recent re-rendering of the side wall of No 8, The Diamond. Once this was removed the subsoil below was a uniform clean brown gravel which lay 0.2m below the current street level. The properties which had been demolished must have been constructed directly onto this gravel as no foundations were present. No archaeological material was identified.
