Following on from the excavations along the A31 Magherafelt Bypass, the remainder of the field where the site of Killyneese 1 was excavated (License Ref.: AE/15/31) was selected for cut and fill works for the road scheme. This borrow pit was located along the eastern edge of Killyneese 1 and comprised a small cncentration of features, including two U-shaped gullies to the north and a larger concentration of small pits and post-holes to the south. While there is no clear evidence for a traditional prehistoric structure, the artefactual assemblage including flint fragments and tools, sherds of pottery (provisionally dated to the Neolithic) and possibe hammer stones, are clear indicators of settlement.
Post-excavation analysis had yet to begin at the time of writing.
