Tullylinkisay 2 was one of 11 sites excavated as part of the advanced works for the A31 Magherafelt Bypass. The excavation followed on from trial trenching and initial work for strip/map sample excavation undertaken by Fintan Walsh under licence AE/14/232. Archaeological features were recorded in Trenches 198, 200 and 201. These trenches were subsequently extended to establish a buffer zone around the archaeological resource. A circular structure of likely Bronze Age date, defined by a shallow gully, was identified in association with several pits, stake and post-holes. Artefactual material included prehistoric pottery, lithics and a possible saddle quern fragment. Post-excavation analysis had yet to begin at the time of writing.
