Dunamoney 1 was one of 11 sites excavated as part of the advanced works for the A31 Magherafelt Bypass. The excavation followed on from trial trenching undertaken by Fintan Walsh under licence AE/14/232. A circular pit was recorded in Trench 117. This trench was extended to establish a 10m buffer zone around the archaeological features and excavated as Cutting 2. Dispersed pits were recorded in Trenches 120 and 123. These trenches were subsequently extended to establish a 10m buffer zone around the archaeological resource and excavated as Cutting 1.

Cutting 1 comprised several small pits of likely prehistoric date. Cutting 2 comprised a burnt mound with associated trough and several pits. Prehistoric pottery was found within one of the pits.   Post-excavation analysis had yet to begin at the time of writing.
