Development will involve the construction of a two-storey primary school on a green field site measuring 2.389 ha.

A geophysical survey (Licence 15R0063) was carried out by Joanna Leigh within the area of proposed land take. The survey was undertaken to locate and identify any potential archaeological responses within the development area. It was not possible to survey all of the proposed development area due to the presence of tall grass and bushes.

The geophysical survey revealed three areas of undefined archaeological potential. A very faint curvilinear response was noted towards the northern end of the proposed development area. Towards the south of the development area a faint negative rectilinear response was detected, and this was interpreted as being of potential archaeological significance or possibly representing a former farm building. To the east, a response of unclear origin of undefined potential archaeological significance was recorded.

The excavation of nine test trenches revealed two features of possible archaeological significance. No artefacts were revealed and both features were fully excavated at the time of test trenching. No evidence of the geophysical anomalies were noted in any of the test trenches.

On all other occasions topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata.

Due to the discovery of two features of possible archaeological significance, it was recommended that licensed monitoring of all groundworks be carried out.
