An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of a 2-storey dwelling with detached garage on lands 100m west of 93 Clonmore Road, Clontyclay, Dugannon.

The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 5 test trenches across the site using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket.

In all trenches, a single layer of topsoil was removed to a maximum depth of 0.4m. This directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil which consisted of bands of compact orange clay interspersed with a more loose, gritty clay with frequent inclusion of degraded stone.

No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
