An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of a single storey church and community hall on lands to the rear of St Cedma’s Church of Ireland, Church Road, Larne. While no archaeological monuments were identified within the red line boundary, the site is located adjacent to St Cedma’s Church, ANT 040:033, and is a listed building, HB06/06/001.
The evaluation consisted of the excavation of two trenches using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. The development site is located in an enclosed, sheltered area, the majority of which was covered with flagstones. These were removed prior to excavation.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
