A single test trench was excavated through a bank of material which exists over a section of the town wall at Lower William Street in New Ross. The testing was undertaken to ascertain the origin of deposits overlying the wall and to inform conservation strategy. The material is entirely 19th century in origin and formed a bank around a small cottage which formerly occupied the site. Conservation works were subsequently undertaken, monitoring of which did not reveal any archaeological material.
