Monitoring of trenching for the installation of CCTV took place on 14 April 2014. The trench, which was c.0.5m wide and max. 0.8m deep, ran northwards from an existing manhole at the stair tower on the north side of the church for a distance of 23m and then ran eastwards (through the area currently used as a carpark) for a distance of 50m. Features recorded included traces of the foundations for the 19th/20th-century range of buildings that had been built against the north side of the church, cast iron waterpipes and the compacted gravel surface of the avenue. Deposits of rubble and modern building debris were exposed in the east-west trench and close to its eastern end, a fine brown loamy soil rested on yellow boulder clay. The 19th/20th-century features recorded relate to the Colclough occupation of the site and tie in with the results of earlier excavations carried out at Tintern Abbey (Lynch, A. 2010 Tintern Abbey, Co. Wexford: Cistercians and Colcloughs. Excavations 1982-2007. Archaeological Monograph Series:5. Stationery Office).
