Engineering works in Dungarvan town were archaeologically monitored from 7 March to 1 April 2014. The works were on the western end of Quay Street and the east side of the northern end of Church Street. Works included replacement of footpaths and road surface and installation of services. Below the modern tarmac and hardcore on Church Street a layer of black silty material up to 0.6m deep lay on the orange natural clay. Similar material was found on Quay Street. Also on Quay Street a 7m long section of stone kerbing, with traces of a former metalled footpath, was found on the south side of the street. The metalling was much disturbed by previous trenching. Near the centre of the street a section of a metalled former street surface was found and on the north side a 2m long section of wall foundation marked the line of the former street front. All these features had suffered extensive disturbance and no evidence to date them was found.
