An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction by the Western Health & Social Care Trust of a new hospital in Omagh, located to the south of the main body of the existing Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital.

As the development of this site would involve subsoil intrusive activity, 37 test trenches were excavated with a back-acting mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket. Each test trench was excavated either to the level of undisturbed subsoil or archaeological strata, whichever was highest. The test trenches were a minimum of 2m in width and were spaced 10m apart.

No archaeological deposits were uncovered during the course of the evaluation.
