An archaeological evaluation was conducted ahead of the proposed construction of a church, minor hall and ancillary accommodation with parking areas and associated road improvements at land adjoining and north of 70 Drumflugh Road, Benburb.
A total of 10 trenches were excavated across the development site. Topsoil consisting of a mid-brown friable clay was encountered across the site. This topsoil showed evidence of modern disturbance with plastic sheeting evident within each trench. The sheeting is agricultural in nature and relates to frost protection for crops. Subsoil was encountered at depths between 0.4m and 0.55m and consisted of a mix of grey/brown silty clay and orange/brown boulder clay.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
