This feature was partially exposed during monitoring of the construction of a windfarm. The sub-oval pit was partially covered by the baulk so the exposed volume was fully excavated. The pit was cut into the bedrock and had its upper section removed/truncated by the mechanical grading bucket. The sides of the pit were near vertical and it exhibited signs of in situ burning with fill contexts containing heat-affected stone. It is possible the pit was used to burn rock and was later cobered by a clay-rich deposit. Charcoal extracted from the core bulk sample was found to be hazel and when dated revealed a span 2080–1928 BC (IntCal 13 95.4%). Given the in situ burning found, this can be taken to indicate possible dates of use. No associated artefacts were found during excavation.
